The Bar is the student representative body of the School of Law (SOL).

With a vision to build an empowered student community, The Bar aims to enable students to make informed decisions in both their professional and academic pursuits. In serving the school community, The Bar seeks to increase the visibility of student-interest groups and enhance the vibrancy of student life in SMU Law. The Bar holds events (both social and professional-academic), and welfare drives for the student body. The Bar also serves as a voice for the student body in its ongoing engagement with the School of Law administration.

Law Camp is an orientation camp to welcome and help incoming Law freshmen integrate into SMU. In light of COVID-19, this year's camp will not take place physically, but The Bar has some online plans for you! The Bar has prepared a similarly fun-filled online orientation for you – ICEBREAKER 2020!

ICEBREAKER 2020 is your chance to get to know your fellow freshmen and School of Law seniors through an exciting line-up of games, chit-chat sessions and other icebreaker activities. The event is structured around making new friends, and introducing you to what you can do to make the most of your School of Law experience at SMU.

The event will take place on 16 July 2020. Sign ups close on 11 July 2020 11.59PM, so register early to make sure you don’t miss out! The Bar hopes to see you at ICEBREAKER 2020!

In addition to making friends at ICEBREAKER 2020, you will have the chance to gain valuable academic insights from your law school seniors through the Bar’s annual mentorship programme.

This Summer, the Bar invites you to take part in the annual Bar Mentorship Programme. This programme is structured to help you have a better understanding of how to prepare for and go about classes in law school. We have also prepared a survival guide booklet that contains crucial information pertaining to getting by your first year in law school. Through the Bar Mentorship Programme, you will have access to two mentors who are senior students in law school. These mentors will be attached to you to help you find your footing here. You will also have the chance to interact with fellow mentees in your mentorship group. We hope to see you in the programme!

This programme is available for both LLB and JD students.
